FAQ

What other costs should I keep in mind?

Ans: Please see the "Pricing & Terms" tab for optional add-on costs. These depend on the activities and meal options you choose.

Are meals arranged during the tour?

Ans: Yes. Hotel breakfast (continental) is included in the base package. Lunch and dinner breaks will be scheduled during the tour. Indian lunch and/or dinner will be arranged on most days as an optional add-on. If you prefer not to opt for the arranged meal, other food options will normally be available nearby.

Will vegetarian food be available?

Ans: Yes. Vegetarian food will be available throughout the tour, with Indian vegetarian options available at most of the arranged meal stops. A significant portion of our travelers are usually vegetarian.

I would like to send my parents on the tour by themselves. Will someone be there to guide them?

Ans: Yes. The tour coordinator will accompany the group to the attractions listed in the itinerary unless specifically mentioned otherwise. As long as your parents are comfortable with moderate walking and can manage independently, they should generally be fine. Many of our tours include senior travelers. Please note that Desi Travels USA is not able to provide personal or physical assistance.

What is the group usually like?

Ans: The group is expeccted to be primarily made up of Indian travelers and usually includes singles, couples, families and senior travelers.

How are hotel rooms allocated?

Ans: Families are normally allocated one private hotel room with a private bathroom, subject to the hotel's occupancy and bedding policies. If you are traveling alone, you may be paired with another traveler of the same gender. If you prefer a private single room, you may book one for an additional $150, subject to availability.

I am traveling alone. Will I have to share a room?

Ans: Solo travelers who do not book a private room may be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender. If you prefer not to share, you may request a private room for the applicable single-room supplement, subject to availability.

We are a group of 3 friends. Can we share one room with an extra bed?

Ans: This depends on the availability and occupancy rules of the hotel. Please mention your preference when booking or email booking@desitravelsusa.com so that we can check the available room options. Extra beds, rollaway beds or sofa beds may be smaller or less comfortable than a regular hotel bed and are not guaranteed.

Are attraction tickets reserved in advance, or do we buy them after arrival?

Ans: Where applicable, Desi Travels USA will arrange group reservations or tickets in advance so that you do not need to make the arrangements individually. Some attractions may still involve security checks, entry lines or timed-entry procedures. Any exceptions will be mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before the tour.

Will my child also get a seat on the motorcoach?

Ans: Yes. Every passenger, including children and infants, must have their own seat on the motorcoach.

Do the hotel rooms have a kitchen?

Ans: No. These are standard hotel rooms and normally do not include a kitchen. On most days, the group will arrive at the hotel after the evening sightseeing and dinner schedule.

I do not plan to have dinner with the group. Can I be dropped at the hotel earlier?

Ans: Normally, no. The motorcoach follows the group itinerary and the driver also needs to follow the scheduled meal and rest arrangements. You are welcome to arrange your own transportation to the hotel at your own expense if you prefer to leave the group earlier.

Where are the pickup points?

Ans: Pickup points are selected at convenient locations along the route. The exact pickup locations and instructions will be communicated to you a few days before the tour.

Can I bring a non-Indian friend or family member?

Ans: Absolutely. Everyone is welcome. However, since most travelers are Indian, the casual conversations, music or movies during the journey will be in Indian languages.

Can I bring a pet?

Ans: Unfortunately, pets are not permitted on the tour.

Is wheelchair or mobility assistance available?

Ans: The tour coordinator is responsible for managing the group and is not able to provide personal or physical assistance. Travelers must be able to manage their own mobility needs independently or travel with a companion who can assist them. Please contact Desi Travels USA before booking if you have specific accessibility requirements so that we can check whether the motorcoach, hotels and attractions are suitable.

What clothing should I bring?

Ans: Wear regular clothing appropriate for the season. Ponchos are normally provided for Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds, but you should still be prepared to get somewhat wet.

The overnight journeys seem long. Is that correct?

Ans: Yes, the overnight drives are long, and comfort/restroom stops are included along the way. Traveling overnight allows us to cover the distance without requiring an additional vacation day mainly for travel and also helps avoid the cost of an additional hotel night.

FAQ

What are the other costs I need to keep in mind?

Ans: Pls see 'Costs and Terms' tab for the optional costs per adult depending on what you want to do.

Are food arrangements also made?

Ans: Yes. Breakfast (continental) at the hotel is already included it the price. For lunch/dinner there will be a break. Indian lunch/dinner will be arranged on most days and you can opt for it. If you do not want to opt for it, you will have other options nearby. Once your seats reservation is complete, Skanda Travels will communicate with you on how this will be arranged.

Is there possibility for vegetarian food in this trip?

Ans: Yes. Throughout the tour you have possibility for veg food (Indian in most places). Usually about 50% of the travelers are vegetarians!

I want to send my parents only. Will there be someone to guide them?

Ans: The tour leader will accompany the group to all attractions (unless specifically mentioned) in the tour itinerary. As long as they are physically fit for mild walks to attractions, it is not a problem. Usually about 50% of the tour group are elder parents. Please note that we do not have possibility for any physical assitance from our side.

Are the tickets to the attractions reserved ahead or do we need to buy on arrival?

Ans: Skanda Travels will reserve the tickets in advance for the group and make necessary arrangements so that you do not have to wait in line for the tickets (except where mentioned in the itinerary in the Overview tab). Once your seats reservation is complete, Skanda Travels will communicate with you on how this will be arranged.

Will my child also get a seat in the bus?

Ans: Yes. It is also a legal requirement that every person irrespective of age gets a seat.

How is the room allocation done?

Ans: It is 1 room with private bathroom per family (2 adults + 1 or 2 kids). If you are traveling alone, you will be paired with another person of same gender. If you are alone and you need a room for yourself, it can be arranged at an additional cost of 150 euros when requested upfront via email.

What is the group like?

Ans: It is mostly Indians – singles, couples, families and elder parents.

I’m alone. I don’t mind a same gender roommate, but not otherwise.

Ans: We will make sure you are either alone or with same gender roommate. You don't pay the extra for the separate single room.

We are a group of 3 friends. Is it possible that we share the same room with an extra bed in the room?

Ans: This depends on availability of triple rooms. Mention this at the time of reservation by email to booking@skandatravels.com so that arrangements can be checked. Please note that the extra bed may not be comfortable for an adult and so this arrangement is not recommended by Skanda Travels.

Do the hotel rooms have a kitchen?

Ans: No. These are regular hotel rooms without kitchen. We arrive at the hotel late in the evening after dinner.

At the end of each day, I do not intend to have dinner with the group. Will you drop us to the hotel earlier?

Ans: Since our bus driver also has to have dinner, this is not possible. However you are welcome to take a taxi at your own cost to the hotel.

What are the departure points?

Ans: Near the bus/train station. Refer skandatravels.com/pickuppoints for exact location

Can I bring along a non-Indian?

Ans: You may, but please do set their expectation that the crowd is primarily Indian – the languages, movies, chit chatting could all be in a different language than they can understand!

Can I bring a pet?

Ans: Unfortunately not.

Is wheelchair assistance possible?

Ans: This tour requires mandatory boat rides in Venice, buses and walking on pebbled roads in Rome. So the tour is unfortunately not wheelchair friendly even when traveling with your own assistance. We don’t have possibility to provide wheelchair assistance.

Will I need to spend anything extra for public transport?

Ans: No. When it is part of the described itinerary, the cost is already included.
